Through years learned many of living and operating in the SEAL teams, I had valuable skills and processes regarding staying prepared (both mentally and physically) while waiting for the next big thing.
The priority of all men is to remain constantly physically available to deal with and endure the unbearable next minute. And, to that end, I began the committed daily ritual of waking up early, preparing my mind and body so that I could endure the challenges to come.
My Baseline
- I am an ultramarathon runner.
- My goal is to complete the Pacific Crest Trail 50-miler in May.
- I need to focus on form and endurance. I need to let go of frustra tion and disappointment with my pain and back and leg injuries. I need to push my limits once a week. I need to get a mentor.
- My running partner is Tamara. My lifting partner is Pete. My flexibility partner is Stacy. I will engage my massage therapist, Nikki. I will engage my ultramarathon coach, Serge. I will engage my dietician, Molly.
- My overall plan is to run 30 miles a week for two weeks, then add 10 miles a week for two weeks. Lift twice a week. Swim once a week. Get one massage a week. Call coach twice a week. My baseline three simple things I must accomplish every day and pay myself for are run for one hour, stretch for 20 minutes, and drink 10 glasses of water.
- I am doing this because I said I would do it.
